Happily Married Cross Dressing Man Spreads Message of
Acceptance
Scott Koeller, shown below in
character as “Daphne DoAll LaChores”, demonstrates great courage when telling
his story of learning to love and accept himself. Scott’s awareness of experiencing joy while
wearing women’s clothing began in his pre-teen years. Having abandoned this behavior during his
high school and early college years, a strong desire to return to this practice
came over him late in his college career.
Over the next few years, Scott’s
uneasy path included questioning his sexual orientation and trying to commit
suicide, twice, with a .410 shotgun.
When the gun failed to fire the second time, Scott realized a higher
power was at work in his life.
Twenty-two years later, Scott
describes himself as a “happily married man” whose calling in life is to spread
a message of “acceptance” while urging others to “not judge each other.” Scott’s wife is very supportive of his cross
dressing behavior.
Scott’s story can be found in a
short YouTube video at Indie Alaska: http://youtu.be/Jr6vNZYpj6M
Lehmiller (2014) describes
cross-dressing as “another subtype of transgenderism” (p. 135). Noting that some transgendered persons find
the term “transvestite” to be offensive, Lehmiller notes that while the words
“cross-dresser” and “transvestite” are frequently used interchangeably, there
are inherent differences between the two (p. 136). According to Lehmiller, not all
cross-dressers experience sexual arousal from wearing articles of clothing
typically associated with those who identify as another sex. Transvestites then, are described by
Lehmiller as a “variant” of cross-dressers, who enjoy sexual excitement from
clothing usually thought to be worn by members of the opposite sex (p. 135).
