Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is one of the most profitable criminal activities worldwide. That is a pretty mind blowing fact (at least in my eyes) considering how little you hear about it. Women and children make up most victims and 98% of victims are forced into sexual exploitations, these facts came from http://ec.europa.eu/.

How does one become a victim of human trafficking?
Well most of the victims come from poor backgrounds and are looking for any opportunity to move up in life. They are vulnerable and eager to change their lives, so when a person of power comes along that looks like they have their lives together, well why wouldn't you listen to what they have to say? They make promises of a life for these victims that will never happen. Many victims are taken in this way, some are kidnapped (many children) and a lot of children are even sold into the industry by their parents who needed money.
Some parents are tricked by traders into selling their children to them by promising that their children will have better lives and get an education. There are a number of women who get married to men who end up selling them into the human trafficking industry. Victims also become imprisoned into human trafficking by answering to false adds, like jobs, or study abroad programs, they are then kidnapped, beaten and raped and forced to do what they are told. Many victims are also forced to take drugs and become addicted to them leaving them at the mercy of their "master".

Did you know that human trafficking happens in Alaska?
Native Alaskan women and children are the prime victims, they say that their ethnicity is more appealing to buyers. The criminals like to look for Native families that are transitioning from village life to city life, they are easier prey.

If you go to youtube there are alot of short films about human trafficking, some are pretty hard to watch, but if you want to be more informed I suggest it.
