The Talk

Sex is a topic that is not being taught accurately in many places around the world. Why is this? Is it because the the schools are not teaching it correctly, or is it because parents aren't comfortable talking to their kids about it? Well in my opinion it is both. I think that their should be a set curriculum in schools that teaches all aspects of sex and I think that it should happen progressively through their schooling. Parents should also introduce sex to their kids at a young age and as kids have questions parents should answer them. The following link has some pretty good steps to take on how to approach the talk and when to do it.

I also think that children view the sex talk, whether it is coming from parents or teachers, as a frightening and awkward experience that. I know it is an important topic but maybe we need to lighten up a bit. Teachers are constantly trying to make their curriculum more fun and exciting so students will want to learn more and ask questions. I think that the same should go for sexual education, YES it's awkward but making it more interesting will peek kids interest and maybe they will be inclined to ask really good questions that can help them along their way. The video below would have been way more effective in my sex-ed class back in middle school.

Another thing that I think hurts our kids (in the sex talk ) is in general when kids ask questions they are answered with the bare minimums. We need to be teaching kids what does happen, not what social norms say should happen.
