I know this is not completely on target but
this week’s reading regarding sex workers made me wonder why they did not bring
up strippers, but they brought up escorts and women who work in brothels. Recently I have seen a growth in stripping
and the use of pole dancing as exercise and how it is being used all over the
country. What has been said is it
empowers women and makes them feel more comfortable and confident. Could this theory be applied to sex workers
as well? Most of the benefits of pole
dancing are similar to a gym work out.
Its reported one session can burn up to 250 calories. An article from CNN described how most women
attend the classes because they enjoy feeling sexy. Here is an excerpt for the article, “there’s another benefit, Rogers said.
"This made me feel better about my body. I used to be nervous about my
body and try to hide it. Now I'm a lot more open and confident. I stand up
straight and feel good about myself."” Could some sex workers have the
same attitude as strippers and women who do pole dancing? And why not?
A stripper could make similar money to a sex worker and go into her own business
and own her own club. I think these two
ideas are related and should be discussed further.
